Hamas launches investigation into military failings
Hamas has launched an internal investigation into the poor performance by its military wing and the failure of the Qassam defence and fighting tactics during the three-week Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip, Hamas security sources in Gaza told Jane's on 22 January. A senior Hamas military commander told Jane's that a full report, expected shortly, would be critical of virtually every decision made by commanders on the battlefield as well as of the political decision making surrounding Hamas' engagement in the conflict.
